Overview

About this Microcredential

Mathematics is the language of our technological society. It underpins most of the technological and scientific breakthroughs we now take for granted in our day-to-day lives. People equipped with this language will be positioned to communicate with and help drive the future scientific and technological breakthroughs that will support mankind.

The Mathematics Preparation (Extended) bridging microcredential will provide you with a solid foundation for your university math studies. In addition, you will have the opportunity to get to know other students, as well as the academics you'll be learning from throughout your studies. This intensive 10-day microcredential is recommended if you intend on enrolling in MATH1000. If you intend on enrolling in statistics or science units, you can undertake either this microcredential or the five-day Mathematics Preparation microcredential.

Key features

  • Review your numerical and algebraic skills - Learn how to work with surds, study rearranging and factorising, and learn how to solve algebraic expressions.
  • Increasing your knowledge of functions and linear functions - Study functional notation, quadratics, exponentials, logarithms and lines, and learn how to solve simultaneous equations.
  • Learn about trigonometry and calculus - trig basics, trig functions, trig properties, trig graphs and foundational calculus.
  • Learn from world-renowned experts - Interact with teachers and colleagues in an interactive learning environment.

Who should attend

This bridging microcredential is suitable for students from various mathematical backgrounds intending to enrol in first-year mathematics units. It provides a solid review of introductory mathematical concepts, as well as an introduction to and review of algebra and function concepts.

It’s highly recommended for students who have completed HSC Mathematics Standard – or have no mathematical experience – and intend to undertake mathematics units such as MATH1000 or economics units at first-year level. It also covers mathematical concepts useful in preparing for statistics, chemistry and biology units.

Students intending to enrol in MATH1000 should undertake this 10-day bridging microcredential.
Students intending to enrol in statistics or science units can undertake either this extended bridging microcredential or the five-day Mathematics Preparation bridging microcredential.

*Note: This microcredential does not provide entry to MATH1010. Students who do not meet the entry requirement for that unit (HSC Mathematics Advanced Band 4 and above, HSC Mathematics Extension 1 Band E2 and above, or HSC Mathematics Extension 2 Band E2 and above) will need to complete MATH1000, WFMA0003 or WMAT1000.
