About this Microcredential
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are increasingly used in cybersecurity to identify malicious activity, analyse network traffic and detect anomalies that may signal a threat. As these technologies become more widely used in cyber defence, understanding how to apply them – and how attackers can target them – is becoming increasingly important.
The AI for Cyber Security Practical Extension will extend your existing AI and machine learning skills through hands-on application in realistic cybersecurity scenarios. In a dedicated virtual environment, you’ll use cybersecurity datasets and technical tools to build and evaluate machine learning models, analyse malware and network traffic, detect anomalies, and explore adversarial attacks and their defences. With the advanced practical skills you’ll gain, you’ll be well equipped to apply AI and machine learning in a range of cybersecurity roles and environments.
Key features
Develop practical machine learning skills
Prepare data, engineer features, build and evaluate models, tune detection thresholds, and interpret false positives and negatives.
Test AI against adversarial attacks
Explore how attackers evade, manipulate or poison ML systems, and apply techniques to improve model robustness, monitoring and trustworthiness.
Build practical skills with cybersecurity tools
Work with Python notebooks, Visual Studio Code, Wireshark, HxD, Mitmproxy and Npcap to develop practical experience with industry-relevant tools.
Take on a workplace-style cyber AI challenge
Develop an ML solution to analyse network connections and determine whether traffic is normal or potentially malicious.
