About this Microcredential

At present, several New South Wales Stage 6 subjects, as well as the International Baccalaureate, feature projects that involve human participants as a significant part of assessment. These include Community and Family Studies, Health and Movement Science (formerly PDHPE), Geography, and Society and Culture.

The Teaching HSC Students Research Ethics microcredential supports secondary teachers in the teaching of ethical research practices and their application in student research projects that involve human participants. You’ll gain an understanding of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, 2018 and acquire the skills to identify resources that support students in applying ethics to their data collection methodologies; for example, the key features of an ethically sound consent form.

Who you will learn from

Natasha Todorov
Dr Natasha Todorov

Dr Natasha Todorov from Macquarie’s School of Psychological Sciences is an experienced teacher of professional ethics and psychological assessment to honours psychology students. Her research interests lie in exploring how forgiveness can build resilience in response to negative life events, and improving first-year teaching practices. She’s contributed to the ethical oversight of research as a member of the Macquarie University Humanities and Social Sciences Human Research and Ethics Committee, and she’s currently the first year level lead for psychology.

Stephanie Thompson
Dr Stephanie Thompson

Dr Stephanie Thompson has more than 15 years experience in secondary education across various roles and contexts, including in leadership and alternative education. She currently manages a secondary school library and works with teachers to build capacity for literacy instruction. She’s passionate about promoting student agency and empowering students to become creative and critical thinkers. Her qualifications include a Master of Education (Leadership) and a PhD in English.
