About this Microcredential

The New South Wales Legal studies syllabus provides students in their Preliminary Stage 6 year with opportunities to develop their knowledge and understanding of the nature and functions of law and law-making, the development of Australian and international legal systems, the Australian constitution and law reform. In the HSC course, students consider the core topics of crime and human rights, and study two option topics from a range of seven: consumers, global environmental protection, family, Indigenous peoples, shelter, workplace and world order.

The Help! I’m Teaching Legal Studies for the First Time microcredential provides a comprehensive overview of the Legal Studies syllabus for secondary teachers new to teaching the subject. You’ll gain an understanding of the content covered as well as an appreciation of how to manage the timing of topic delivery; how to locate useful resources and case studies; the importance of building student literacy capacity so that they’re able to communicate their understanding of legal concepts; and how to design and mark assessment tasks, including formative assessments.
